Ms. Bixby’s Last Day by John David Anderson

In Ms. Bixby’s Last Day by John David Anderson, three friends tell the story of when they skipped school. The students skipped school because they wanted to see their sick teacher and she was so nice to them. They also wanted to see their teacher because she was going to be moved to a hospital out of state.

I liked the book I read because the book was not confusing because they were taking everything one step at a time. The book was not hard to read because I was able to understand all of the words I was reading. The book started to become unpredictable when they skipped school. The book was believable because, if your teacher is sick and you really care about this teacher you want to do something more than just sending them a card. My favorite part of the book was when the three friends decided to go visit that teacher. The connections I made were if someone I cared about was in the hospital I would want to get better and want to visit them as much as I can. I would give this book 3 1/2 ⭐ because the book is interesting but I prefer a book with more action. I would recommend this book to readers who really care about others.

In the book Brand says, “I don’t think it’s enough to send her a stupid construction-paper card, do you?” (43) I think this quote is an important and very caring part of the story and that is what makes the book so interesting. Also I think the author really wants to make the audience feel like a card is not enough for them to do for Ms. Bixby.

Ms. Bixby’s Last Day is a children’s novel by John David Anderson in which sixth-grade best friends Topher, Steve, and Brand learn their favorite teacher, Ms. Bixby, has cancer. The boys are stunned when, in May, she announces she has cancer and the following Friday will be her last day teaching for the year. When Ms. Bixby declares she will beat the cancer and come back, the three boys are not happy about Ms. Bixby leaving, but desperately want her to get better.

I liked this book because of the great relationship between Steve (the main character) and Ms.Bixby. I found this book very interesting because the name of the chapters were using the names of the 3 boys in the book.

Ms Bixby’s Last Day by John David Anderson is about a teacher who has cancer so she has to go to the hospital to get better. She promised the students in her class she will have a party with them before she leaves. But the principal thinks she has a disease or something so she doesn’t want her to come back to the school. The students saw a video of her talking about what was going on. They all made her cards and the principal took some kids to the hospital to give her the cards. But only one person was allowed in the room. So three kids made a plan for all of them to sneak in there and their plan is in process.

I like my book because it's really interesting. The book was not confusing. The book that I'm reading is a little bit hard to read because the letters are small. The book that I'm reading was not predictable, and some parts were surprising. I'm not sure if this book was real or fake but it seemed like the book was a real story. I haven’t got to the end yet so I'm not sure if I like it. I don't have a favorite part yet. I made a connection about having a certain group of friends I hang out with and having a caring relationship with the teacher.

In the book, the teacher says, “When life gives you lemons, make a lemon pie.” I like this quote because it’s the truth and it inspires me. Whenever life gives a chance to do something, take that opportunity.
